TWD GP 315 1102 0042 Walking Dead spoilers: One wedding and a funeral

As reported here last week, now everyone is picking up the spoiler about Merle biting the dust, and it looks like it will be this Sunday’s episode, “This Sorrowful Life,” rather than the season finale. The only thing that remains somewhat of a mystery is the how and what will happen to him after he turns, but you don’t really expect me not to have spoilers on that as well, do you?

If you don’t want to know, don’t read on.

It looks like Merle will go out a hero, or trying to be a hero, anyway. With the looming deal to hand over Michonne to The Governor to try to avoid a war between Woodbury and the prison, Merle is off to deliver her, but ends up cutting her loose, with the idea of taking the bull by the horns, so to speak, and taking out The Gov.

As bad ass as Merle is, he will fail.

And we all know what happens to those who die, if a bullet isn’t put through their brain. So yes, Merle will turn and some one will take him out. Given the history of the show, and bearing in mind what would make the most gut-wrenching death scene, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that his brother, Daryl, is likely the one who has to put him down. Andrea killed her sister, and Carl shot his own mother in the head, so Daryl won’t be spared. But, unlike those two who rather calmly did what had to be done, tough guy Daryl won’t take it so well, from what the spoilers are saying.

That’s a nice way of telling you you better have those Kleenex handy, guys. ‘Cause people are divided on most characters on this show, but everyone freakin’ loves Daryl. Everyone.

Speaking of love, it doesn’t exactly take a genius to figure out the wedding part of the article must be Glenn and Maggie, who make things official in this episode, at least as far as an engagement. Now, this will be a test of the writers for the show, not to make this a cheap, melodramatic moment, but a touch of hope in such a bleak landscape. Let’s hope they pull it off.

If it doesn’t happen tonight, we have positive confirmation on one major character who will die this season, or at least be turned to a walker.  It’s confirmed by a photo of the character as a zombie, so there is no disputing it — all that remains to be determined is if he is put down and if so, by whom.

You have been warned not to read on if you hate spoilers. Continue reading »

Romance is in the air in Portland — flowers, passionate kisses and … gunfire. Throw in the green-eyed monster — or a green-eyed human in a jealous rage, to be precise — and you have a little romance, “Grimm” style.

The folks at “Grimm” were busy little bees during their way-too-long hiatus, and packed plenty of action into “Grimm’s” return Friday night. Here’s the basic lowdown: Rosalee (Bree Turner) is back, we finally got confirmation that Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz) is a Wesen and saw his other face, and Adalind (Claire Coffee) is still officially the most evil bitch on the planet.

That’s the Cliff’s Notes version, but let’s fill in some details.

Adalind is still hot to get her hands on the key, and using Renard to do her evil deeds. Speaking of hot, Renard and Juliette’s (Bitsie Tulloch) spell-induced infatuation came to a bit of a head Friday night. While at a crime scene, Juliette called Renard begging him to come over. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Nick (David Giuntoli) knows about the little thing between the two, minus the whole spell part driving it. So he follows Renard back to the house formerly known as his and Juliette’s abode, and is set to storm in and catch them in the act when Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) calls him and divulges that whole spell thing.

(Whew, that’s a lot of action for a little bit of screen time. )

Then Nick… walks away. Huh? Whoa there writers, even if this fatal attraction was caused by love potion #666, Nick is really going to leave without breaking up the party? Or at least what he thinks is a party. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Just as Juliette and Renard are about to uh, consummate their attraction, conflicting emotions run wild in a “Yes! No! Stop! Don’t stop!” back and forth that finally ends when Juliette grabs Renard’s gun and fires off about five or so shots to stop the action. Fortunately for her — and Renard — she shot them into their walls, not loverboy.

So he leaves, but Adalind hooks up with Renard, and I do mean hooks up. She wants to take the edge off, so to speak, and insists that Renard get it on with her in Wesen mode. So now we finally see his Wesen face, which seems to be Hexenbiest? Men can be Hexenbiests?

But the most stunning turn of events is when Renard figures out  Nick has hidden the key in his desk at work and swipes it. Then denies having it to Adalind. Then, get this, takes it back to Nick for safekeeping when he realizes handing it over would be his death warrant, at which point Renard and Nick pretty much know all about each other.

Then with the help of Rosalee, Nick, Renard, Juliette and Monroe set about reversing that whole obsession spell. Nick has to drink a nasty potion for purification as the first step to setting this right, just as Renard had done to wake up Juliette, Sleeping Beauty style.

So we find Nick in the throes of a very bad reaction to his purification potion at the end of this episode, and the Wicked Witch of the Wesen, Adalind, has an entirely different reaction to the dose of “love potion” Renard gave her — the skank is knocked up, which clearly pleases her.

What is she up to now?

Halloween may be only one day a year for most people, but for some of us, not only is it every night of the year, but we like to think one can never be too thin, too rich, or too witchy. So to keep the spirit of the witch alive outside of the season, here are some tunes to get you in the mood for magic and maybe a little mischief.

#10 “Witches” – Switchblade Symphony

I swear this song makes an appearance on every “goth” compilation ever made, plus most of the Halloween ones, as well. Spooky in a  quirky way.

#9 “Love Potion #9” – The Searchers

Classic rock song covered by a million artists, but have to go with The Searchers version of this one.

#8 “Virgin Witch” – Rob Zombie

You’re bound to find some kind of witchy homage in the Rob Zombie discography, and in fact, this is one of two, with the other being “American Witch.”

#7 “The Witch” – The Cult

Perhaps the hippest witch of the lot, The Cult gave their witch an irresistible beat and a little punchy guitar. She’s got what you need, indeed.

#6 “Black Magic Woman” – Santana

The sultriest witch in lot, hands down. Ricky Martin made reference to some witchy ways in his hit “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” but this is the penultimate Latin lady of magic.

#5 “Wicked Old Witch” – John Fogerty

You can almost see an old shack out in the swamps when you hear this one. “Everybody ‘fraid of the wicked old witch.” Love it!

#4 “Season of the Witch” – Donovan

The go-to song for every movie and TV show that has a witch in it. Played out, but there’s no denying it’s a classic and must have on any witch list.

#3 “Dark Lady” – Cher

You’re probably either saying, “No way!” Or, “What song is this?” A blast from Cher’s past, the sinister feel of this track is awesome. I dare you to listen to it and not get it stuck in your head all day. Double dare you.

#2 “Witchy Woman” – The Eagles

This creepy little witch song is so visual I remember making a drawing about it when I was younger. And by younger, we’re talking crayons here.

#1: “Rhiannon” – Stevie Nicks, er, Fleetwood Mac

DUH. Don’t even argue this one with me, because I have one word for you: Stevie. Aka THE Goddess, the High Priestess of Rock, the witchy woman herself. To this day, I and a slew of women of my generation have a fetish for black chiffon and crystal balls thanks to Ms. Nicks.

The rumor mills are buzzing about this week’s episode of “The Walking Dead” and what may happen. Now, if you can believe an alleged leak, I have a full spoiler synopsis of the episode coming up Sunday (Episode 12) here in my hot hands, courtesy of a fan forum site. Suffice it to say, it looks like Andrea and her ol’ pals at the prison are going to have a reunion.

The Governor will not like that. And her old pals may not be so excited to be reunited with the woman bumping uglies with the guy who just gunned down poor Axel and tore up their gate with a zombie bomb in the courtyard.

Seriously not cool, big guy.

Tuesday’s episode of “Face Off” on Syfy was a bit… surprising. Contestants picked some abstract art and were surprised to find it was details of various bugs. Judges were surprised to have to disqualify the true winner  for this week’s challenge. And we were all surprised that one of the front runners — perhaps the frontrunner — found himself in the bottom looks this week. It’s like Halloween in February with four nice horror releases on Blu-ray today, ranging from mainstream, to classics, to cult: “Sinister,” “The Prison,” a new print of “The Terminator,” and a double-feature video of “Terrorvision” and “The Video Dead.”

Sinister” is a recent release making it’s way to DVD for the first time, starring Ethan Hawke as a disgraced true-crime author who moves into a house where a rather gruesome murder has taken place.

The Terminator” has been remastered for this new release Blu-ray edition, but doesn’t have any new special features form the original Blu-ray edition.

More promising is the special edition release of Renny Harlan’s “The Prison,” with Viggo Mortenson. The movie starts with a POV shot scene of a man going to execution and since they were shooting in a real prison, they decided to use real inmates as extras. You know if it has Viggo it has to be worth watching.

And the last new release is the double-feature of “Terrorvision” and “The Video Dead.” If you love the 80s and pure campy classics, this is a great way to spend a Friday night in front of the TV with a big bowl of popcorn.
